MDU Fiber Extensions

MDU fiber extension is the process of delivering fiber to multi-dwelling units (MDUs) to provide high-speed broadband to tenants. Fiber extension can be achieved in a number of ways, including:

This technology reuses existing in-building infrastructure, such as coaxial cabling, to provide broadband access. This can be a cost-effective option that minimizes the need to recable infrastructure.

MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance)

MoCA is a technology that allows users to create a wired internet network using existing coaxial cables in their homes. MoCA is a good option for those who want to have wired Ethernet speeds without the need for drilling holes or running wires.

Gigabit Home Networking (G.hn)

A wired home networking standard that allows for speeds up to 2 gigabits per second (Gbs/s). G.hn can be installed using existing network wiring, such as coaxial cables, power lines, telephone wires, and plastic optical fiber. G.hn is more resistant to power line disturbances than other connection technologies. It also offers a seamless transition to IPTV, allowing subscribers to migrate at their own pace

G.Fast

G.fast is a broadband technology that uses existing copper cables to provide faster internet speeds than Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC). It's a cost-effective alternative to fiber optic cables and can be a good option for businesses and households with multiple devices.

Some factors to consider when extending fiber to MDUs include distance, cost, labor shortage, and terrain.
